Weekend of flower power

FLOWER festivals are taking place this weekend in both Larnaca and Limassol.

The annual Yermasoyia Flower Festival is taking in the parking area along the waterfront, while in Larnaca a parade of flower-adorned floats will be on display along the Phinikoudes seafront.

The events will also include flower arrangements, arts and crafts stalls, a bazaar as well as traditional food, live entertainment and fireworks.

Down in Yermasoyia Municipality, they say the festival has been attracting increasing numbers of visitors every year. “There are many aims behind this festival, including the preservation of our ancient traditions, the continuation of the flower festival for future generations, encouraging the involvement of young people in artistic and cultural events, the creation of environmental awareness, showcasing our history and civilisation and boosting Limassol’s tourist product,” said Yermasoyia mayor Andreas Gavrielides.

A statement from rival Larnaca Municipality said: “The Flower Festival is celebrated in the city of Zenon like no other city in Cyprus.” Both towns will hold their main parades on Sunday evening after 6pm
