End in sight to title deeds saga?

INTERIOR Minister Neoclis Sylikiotios yesterday called on land developers to acknowledge they were part of the problem when it came to the title-deeds debacle, and to shoulder their responsibilities to buyers.

He said legislation was in process that would bring an end to the problem affecting 100,000 home owners, including 30,000 foreigners, most of whom are British.

Wages down in real terms

CYPRIOT workers whose wages are collectively agreed, saw them increase by only 2.5 per cent in 2008, the second lowest in the EU and an actual drop in real terms, new research revealed yesterday.

The research also revealed that Cyprus has the worst gender pay gap in the bloc, and that there is a lack of trust in employees.

Brown pledges to contribute to Cyprus solution

BRITISH Prime Minister Gordon Brown said his government “can and will” contribute a solution in Cyprus.

Brown, who attended a reception On Wednesday given at the Foreign Office in London by British Minister for Europe, Caroline Flint, for Cypriots living in the UK, said that the solution of the Cyprus problem must come from Cypriots themselves.

Limassol port to become ‘jewel of the island’

MINISTER of Communications and Works Nicos Nicolaides yesterday confirmed plans for infrastructure and development projects in the Old and New Ports of Limassol, with a combined cost of approximately €100 million.

The projects to be carried out over the next three years are expected to radically transform the area of the Old Port and revamp the New Port.

THE POSTAL Services issued two new series’ of commemorative stamps this week.

The stamps, released on Monday, are called Europa and Planet Earth and are viewed as collectors’ items.

Weekend of flower power

FLOWER festivals are taking place this weekend in both Larnaca and Limassol.
