New mall, same mistakes over again

I read with interest about the opening of the Tifanny Mall in Zakaki, Limassol – the biggest privately owned building in Cyprus, parking for thousands of cars, dozens of shops, restaurants, ice rink, etc.

This all sounds very impressive but I live very close to the new mall and I see that there has been absolutely no change in the road traffic infrastructure in the area. Not one of the roads leading to the site has a pavement and the approach from Trachoni is via a narrow winding road with no traffic calming measures or pavement.

It is no wonder there are so many accidents in Cyprus. I can’t imagine any other country in Europe would allow this kind of development to open without changes to local infrastructure.

The Tiffany Mall website shows a new highway, which, as far as I can see, has not been started.

I have no objection to the Mall and welcome any development that improves the local area. It’s just a shame that once again Cyprus has screwed up by not planning ahead.
