Woman elected as Green Party leader

Panayiotou’s appointment represents first female leader of political party)

IOANNA Panayiotou has been elected as the new General Secretary of the Cyprus Green Party, replacing George Perdikis who held the post for the past six years.

The party elections took place on Sunday and also determined changes in the party’s political committee.

“Although we had changes in the committee and a new general secretary, we continue as a team, we were and are a team and our positions are the same, we will continue to struggle on the same foundations,” Panayiotou said.

Panayiotou previously held the position of Limassol Green Party Press Officer, while Perdikis has now holds the post of Green Party Press Representative.

“I believe that a very good choice has been made for all the eleven members of the political committee. We will support all the members and the new general secretary and continue the way carved by the Greens in the last 14 years,” Perdikis said.

In addition to Panagiotou’s election as General Secretary, Dinos Paspalides was elected Deputy General Secretary, Adonis Yiangou and Andreas Evlavis were elected Assistant Secretaries, Theodosia Hadjiloi Financial Officer, George Perdikis Press Representative, Savvas Filippou Executive Secretary, Marios Fournaris Organisational Secretary, Melina Menelaou Public Relations Officer, while Michalis Paraschos and Lakis Nicoalou were elected members.

Following the election the Greens announced that they will soon be announcing the party’s candidates for the European Parliament elections.

“Today we decided the procedure that will be followed and until April 10 we will announce the names of the MEP candidates,” Panayiotou said.
