Looking for my very special lost friends

When I was a baby, a dear Cypriot lady cared for me for nearly a year. Unfortunately my parents failed to record her full name – I only know that ‘Phemou’ was devoted to me.
She lived in Strovolos or near Nicosia in 1961. She cared for me daily, from the time I was four months old, which would be from about September 1961 until, perhaps, April 1961.
Just prior to his death, my father suddenly told me about her. He said she tearfully requested they allow her to adopt me when she was told we were leaving Cyprus.

I also have two cups from a Cypriot family who insisted they were my Godparents. I have no other information about them. They gave me two beautifully crafted, silver cups which I treasure. One has a small fawn on it, the other is a simple frame embellishing it.

My family returned to Cyprus sometime around 1970 and I would also like to hope that the any of the Cypriot or British people we knew from Kyrenia and Nicosia might recall me.
My father’s name (he was a rather memorable chap, worked for the State Department) is Peter Remick , my mother’s is Sylvia.

My name is Lisa Remick and I have two, younger sisters. I was born in Pendyia, Morphou District and went to St Michael’s School (an RAF school) in the early part of 1970.

I have returned to Cyprus to live here permanently. If any kind reader knows a woman nicknamed ‘Phemou, I hope they might ask her if she recalls me.

I would most especially like to find her so I might return the kindness she showed me. I can be reached at: [email protected]
