Working women in Cyprus in the fight against discrimination and racism

KISA, the Action for Equality, Support, Anti-racism group and the left-wing trade union PEO are joining hands to honour migrant women in Cyprus and the socio-economic contribution they make to the island, in an event called ‘Working Women in Cyprus in the Fight Against Discrimination and Racism’ this Sunday.

The event marks the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination on March 21 and is also taking place within the context of International Women’s Day on March 8 and the Europe-wide Action Week Against Racism from March 14-22.

The multicultural programme will include poetry and dances by migrant women from various countries and will be followed by a reception. Deputy General Secretary of PEO, Sotiris Fellas will speak at the event, along with a member of KISA’s steering committee, Anthoulla Papadopoulou. The audience will also have the opportunity to hear from Malkathi Papageorgiou, a migrant woman living in Cyprus.

The event is open to the public and will take place on Sunday, 15 March 2009, from 10:00 – 12:30, at the headquarters of PEO, located at 31-35 Achermou Street, Nicosia.
