Green building for new Paphos EAC headquarters

THE CONTRACT for the construction of the €16.5 million new offices of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) in Paphos was signed yesterday morning.

Paphos Mayor Savvas Vergas said the project would help towards the “rejuvenation of the town”.

The building will be constructed close to the Konia roundabout on the Limassol-Paphos highway.

Vergas has long been trying to beautify the landscape in the area and said in the past that it was of particular significance because it was the spot where visitors entered the town, and first impressions were important, he said.

The Mayor added that in the coming weeks he would be announcing a competition for people to come up with ideas to also improve the areas surrounding the new EAC building, which will be completed in 18 months.

Yesterday the contracts were signed by EAC chairman Harris Thrassou and the contracting consortium A. Panayides Contracting Public Limited and Loizos Iordanou Constructions Limited.

Designed by architect Heracles Papachristou, the project includes a lecture hall, walkways, an outdoor park and green spaces.

The building itself has been designed with special emphasis on saving energy by using geothermal systems in conjunction with an ice storage point for the air conditioning system.
