House approves Euro election voting law

CYPRIOTS will be able to vote in the upcoming European Parliament elections with their European identity cards, while non-Cypriot EU citizens can also use their passports at polling stations.

The new regulations governing the euro elections were approved last night by parliament. They provide also for the setting up of polling stations abroad so that Cypriots can cast their ballot at embassies or consulates.

Voting times have been extended, and will take place from 6am to 8pm, with a one-hour break at noon.

Candidates will have to submit a €1,000 deposit, while a cap of €50,000 has been set on campaign spending.
