Garoyian re-elected unopposed as DIKO leader

MARIOS Garoyian was yesterday re-elected leader of the Democratic Party (DIKO) for a further four-year term, after his candidacy went unopposed.

Garoyian, who has led DIKO since 2006, will be officially declared party president at the Pancyprian Electoral Congress on March 15.

Candidacies were also submitted for the post of Deputy President, Vice President, General Secretary, the 15-member Executive Bureau and the 120-member Central Committee.

Antigoni Papadopoulou and Georgios Kolocassides will both run for Deputy President, while Nicholas Papadopoulos, Angelos Votsis, Costas Mavridis and Constantinos Panayis plan to compete for the position of Vice-President. Deputy Zacharias Koulias withdrew his candidacy for VP in the 11th hour following Papadopoulos’ decision to run.

Kyriacos Kenevezos submitted his candidacy for re-election as General Secretary of DIKO. He will be running against deputy Athina Kyriakidou. Phytos Constantinou was re-elected unopposed as General Organiser.
