No abortion statistics in Cyprus

THERE are no statistics or figures on abortions in Cyprus, the House Human Rights Committee found yesterday.

According to Committee Chairman Sophocles Fyttis of DIKO, this was indicative of the extent of the problem.

Elderly woman dies in house fire

An 85-year-old woman, Eleni Kountourou from Kivides village in Limassol died from third degree burns after a fire broke out in her house late on Monday.

The fire which was accidental reportedly started after pieces of lit paper fell on a quilt the elderly woman was using.

Julian Harrington, 41, was jailed in February 2007 after admitting manslaughter and grievous bodily harm after he set off in pursuit of a moped following a brawl outside a nightclub in Protaras.
