Miracle escape as worker buried alive

IT WAS A miracle escape for a 39-year-old Romanian construction worker who was buried alive yesterday when the earth caved in as he worked in a manhole.

According to police reports, the man was working on Kanigos Street in Lakatamia when, under circumstances being investigated, the ground gave way, burying him in dirt.

When the 39-year-old’s co-workers saw what had happened they immediately called police and the fire services.

For about 90-minutes fire department officials worked to free the man , who emerged from the accident alive. He was taken to Nicosia general hospital where he received first aid and was released, police said.

Lakatamia police station is investigating.
