Limassol General’s only heart doctor goes on strike

THE ONLY cardiologist performing cardiac catheterisations at Limassol General Hospital went on strike yesterday, demanding that he be transferred to Nicosia General Hospital.

As a result, patients from Paphos and Limassol will now be transferred to Nicosia, causing considerable hardship to patients and their families.

Peyia council declares war on rumourmongers

MEMBERS OF the Peyia municipality and the local football club, APOP Kiniras, are threatening to sue a number of residents over what they claim is a slanderous campaign.

Car listings drop in January

CAR REGISTRATIONS dropped by more than a fifth in January compared to the same month the year before.

According to the Statistical Service, last month’s car registrations totalled 4,456, compared to 5,672 in January 2008, marking a 21.4 per cent slump.

Man kidnapped and released

A 38-YEAR-OLD Cypriot man was beaten kidnapped and dumped at Petra tou Romiou in Paphos early yesterday morning.

A suspect, a Bulgarian national, has already been arrested for the crime and police are looking for his three accomplices, who are also thought to be non-Cypriot.

Police believe the men had worked for the victim and may have been owed money.
