Cost of living is getting out of hand

Sir,
What is going on out here? The prices are just rising all the time and if it carries on like this, I feel most British expats will be returning to the UK as they cannot afford to live out here.
Can I please point out that today we purchased six items of groceries from E&S.  The cost of these items came to €56.94.

This is now equivalent to UK£56.00. These prices are now getting out of hand.

For instance a pack of 500g Clover butter in E&S was €3.53 in the UK £1.56. Heinz baked beans x 4, €3.73, price in UK £2.38. WKD Blue x 4 price €6.45, price UK £3.65. Diet Coca Cola x 8, €4.30, price UK 2.80. This equates to double the price in the UK.

Cost for the above in Cyprus equates to €18.01. Price in UK, £10.39.

We also notice that at Papas Supermarkets they are selling Iceland items. They are also charging double the price in which they are in the UK – i.e. Indian Platter out here €12 in UK £5.

Please someone look at what is going on over here with the prices since joining the euro and try to help not only the expats but surely the Cypriots who are not on a very good wage and must also be struggling.

Now that the pound sterling is almost on a par with the euro, you can see why most British pensioners are leaving the island.

Are there any more retirees out here that feels the same?  Please write in and hopefully something can and will be done.

George,
Paphos
