New LGR website launched

LONDON Greek Radio (LGR) has launched a new and improved website in a bid to reach out to as many Greek speakers living abroad as possible.

Since its creation in 1983, LGR has become part of the daily life of London’s sizeable Greek speaking community, and the site’s launch is part of an effort to act as a communication tool between Cypriots and Greeks around the world.

“The LGR website will act as a reference point for Greek Cypriot expatriates in London and elsewhere, who can find out anything and everything about the community by visiting the site. LGR is a community station and we want this website to become the community site,” explained Petros Petrides, one of LGR’s main shareholders.

“LGR is the treasured link to the 300,000 Greeks from Cyprus and mainland Greece now residing in London. It is the most effective mass communication medium of the Greek community in London. Cypriots in London grew up listening to LGR,” added Phoebe Tozi, PR Manager, LGR.

Following an extensive makeover, the improved LGR website www.lgr.co.uk was launched on December 10, featuring a number of new additions. Site visitors can listen to LGR from the website and after midnight CyBC and Antenna radio programmes can be accessed live from the site. New features include local London news and traffic reports, a free Message Board, interactive communication through live polls, meet Greek Cypriot singles, Greek business directory, Events, Press Releases, photo gallery, Music News, Entertainment News, Music Charts, and Meet the LGR DJs.

LGR was founded in 1983 with the primary aim of providing a link with Greek and Cypriot music and culture to London’s Greek Cypriots and mainland Greeks. It was one of the UK’s first ‘ethnic’ radio station. In 1994, the North London-based radio station got an extended licence allowing it to broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
