Clerides to be discharged after four weeks in hospital

FORMER President Glafcos Clerides is due out of hospital on Monday after a stay of four weeks, his doctor said yesterday.

Clerides, who will be 90 in April, had an operation for a fractured left hip on December 9. Doctors say he has made a good recovery and is now ready to be discharged from the Evangelistria Clinic.

Dr Joseph Kasios, the former President’s personal physician, said Clerides was in very good health, and has been undergoing daily physiotherapy. He will be discharged on Monday, but will need to continue therapy, Kasios said.

“The President is making some progress, but it should be understood that he will need more physiotherapy,” he added.
