Armed raid on Kalavasos co-op

AN ARMED robbery occurred yesterday morning in the Kalavasos Co-op when a masked man with a small firearm got away with €10,930 in cash and €3,391 in cheques.

The man entered the Co-op, and waving a small gun, fired a warning shot to scare the bank tellers, placing a bag on the counter and demanding the money. On his way out of the bank, the robber pointed his gun at an off-duty police officer who was taking money out of the ATM. He then boarded a get-away car, driven by a second man who was parked outside the Co-op, and disappeared at high speed.

Police responded immediately, and after a few minutes, found the getaway car in flames, in the Mari-Vasiliko area.

According to the police, the getaway car had fake registration plates. The police have launched a manhunt to arrest the robbers. According to several eye witnesses, the firearm must have been fake, because when the robber fired the warning shot, it made no hole in the roof. Witnesses said the man spoke like a native Cypriot.
