Minister sets ceiling for gas sales

THE COMMERCE Minister yesterday issued an order fixing prices for the retail of liquid gas.

According to the order, gas cylinders will be sold at €7.90 and liquid gas at €790 a metric ton, including VAT.

The order will apply to a period of 13 days, starting yesterday, unless the minister decides to issue a new one.

In the minister’s announcement, Antonis Paschalides said he deemed the new order – the previous one expired on Monday – a necessity following a report by the Competition and Consumers’ Protection Service, indicating that prices could be fixed in favour of consumers, while also ensuring the profit margins of importers, distributors and retailers.

Paschalides added that the ministry’s services would continue to observe developments in the gas market and he would not hesitate to issue a new order, if needed.
