A night in rock heaven

GOING to the Whitesnake concert on Thursday night was one of the best ideas I have had in years.

Words can’t describe the night that was had by all – my group of friends, little cousin and work colleagues.

In fact, what with the bar being within touching distance, it’s quite a surprise I’m in any fit state to write this at all.

As soon as we walked into the arena at Eleftheria Stadium, we immediately felt the buzz, which was definitely helped along by opening band Sulphur.

As the atmosphere started building up, I thought I would burst as soon as Whitesnake came on.

Admittedly, despite being what you’d call a ‘rock chick’, I wasn’t really aware of Whitesnake’s music, apart from the obvious classics such as Is this Love and Still of the Night.

But I absolutely loved the songs – the band got the crowd going in a matter of seconds with its new releases and by the time David Coverdale and co eased into the old classics everyone was in a state of delirium.

There was one dodgy moment, when a fight broke out right in front of the stage, which prompted Coverdale to stop singing and tell them to “get the f*** out of here. We didn’t come all the way to Cyprus to watch you fighting.”

As the night wrapped up, we were all on a high and wondering why the hell there weren’t more rock concerts like that in Cyprus.

Even the next day – hangovers aside – we couldn’t stop talking about what a great time we had and how evenings like these are necessary to vent the obligatory build-up of stress and anxiety.

A minor mishap – well actually quite a big mishap, someone took my bag by mistake but thankfully it was found later – delayed me from attending the after party, which I had been looking forward to all week.

By the time we got there, everything had died down, though we did get to meet the drummer, Chris Frazier, who to be honest was a tad too full of himself for my liking.

But I suppose it’s allowed when you’re part of one of the most famous rock bands in the world.
