What’s left when even the dancers are called off?

Sir,
I would like to voice my concern relating to the decline in tourism.

Whilst visiting a favourite restaurant, Melitzia in Tala, I was horrified to find out that the weekly Cypriot dancing has had to be cancelled due to complaints from a very misguided few.

Apparently some individuals have taken exception to this tradition and have forced a termination of such activities. This has been a feature of village life for so long and seeing youngsters dance with such great joy to the delight of all in attendance has been curtailed.

Whenever my family and friends visit us here it was always top of their agenda. Surely this sorry state of affairs needs urgent correction.

How can there be so many paragraphs of dismay over the decline in tourism be printed in the island’s press and then the authorities allow themselves to be dictated to by a few killjoys?

Come on Tala, let’s do our bit to preserve this wonderful island and its traditions

Ian Lewis,
