Limassol to host international conference on alcohol and addiction

THE INTERNATIONAL Council of Alcohol and Addictions (ICAA) will organise an international conference in Limassol between November 2 and 7. The conference will be held under the auspices of President Demetris Christofias.

“The conference will be the biggest and most important global event in the field of drug, alcohol and other addictions,” read a statement issued by Kenthea, a Cypriot NGO working towards combating addiction.

Kenthea, which is a member of ICAA, was founded in 1994 by the Bishop of Kiti Chrysostomos. The NGO runs various programmes for prevention and education, as well as the rehabilitation and support of addicts. It operates ‘Tolmi’, an open therapy community for addicts, with centres in Larnaca, Limassol and Nicosia. Kenthea also runs telephone support centres.

Two hundred field experts from across the globe are expected to attend the conference, in addition to approximately 150 young Cypriot professionals.
