Missing Brit found dead

THE BODY of a British man who went missing from his Oroklini home on Monday has been found, police said yesterday.

The body of Edward Lewis Blythe, 39, was discovered floating near the Larnaca Sailing Club yesterday morning by a man working near the coastal path.

The find came just hours after local police stepped up the search for the missing Briton, who was said to be in a “very distressed state” when he disappeared.

Chief Inspector Christos Andreou told the Cyprus Mail last night that Blythe was found just one mile from where police found his abandoned his car.

“He was found along the coast from where he had left his wallet, phone and clothes on the beach. His body had been in the water for two days,” he said.

A source at Orokini police station confirmed reports that Blythe had threatened to commit suicide during a final telephone call to his wife, just hours after he fled his home.

“His wife did mention he had some problems, he had arranged to meet her then go and see a doctor, he never turned up for that appointment,” he said.

Coroner Nicholas Charalambous has initially ruled out foul play and a post mortem examination is expected to be held at Larnaca General Hospital today.
