A TEENAGER was arrested on Friday after child pornography was found on his computer, police said yesterday.
Police said the 18-year-old was arrested on charges of spreading and promoting child pornography via a computer and possession of child pornography. He was also found in violation of the law on child pornography and trafficking and exploitation of persons and victims’ protection.
Investigators collected as evidence seven computers, a hard drive and 22 CDs that appear to be related to child pornography downloaded from the internet.
The Cyber Crime Unit is investigating.
Youth netted
A 17-YEAR-OLD youth was arrested after he was caught trying to trap ambelopoulia on Friday afternoon, police said yesterday.
The teen was found by the Game and Wildlife Service at around 5pm in the ‘Milouri’ area in Palaichori, in the Nicosia district.
At the scene authorities found three ambelopoulia, a net and two wire poles to support the net.
Palaichori police are investigating.
Trapping the small birds, which are a local delicacy and commonly eaten pickled or boiled, is illegal as the method – by the use of mist nets, lime sticks and electronic devices – often kills internationally protected species of migratory birds.
Overdose death
A TWENTY-FOUR year old man from Romania died from a drug overdose in Paphos on Friday.
The man was found unconscious in his house in Yeroskipou by a relative, who called the police. The police investigation ruled out foul play while the autopsy revealed that his death was caused by pulmonary oedema.
According to information, the 24-year-old had had run-ins with the police before and it was known that he was a drug user. Just last week, the police searched his apartment and found him in a semi-conscious state.
Drugs arrest
A TWENTY-NINE year old man was arrested and remanded in custody on Friday evening to facilitate investigations, over the illegal possession of drugs.
Two plastic bags with two grams of a drug believed to be cocaine, two half pills believed to be ecstasy pills and precision scales were found in the man’s possession.
