Limassol celebrates ‘The Day of the Sea’

LIMASSOL celebrates World Shipping Day today with a series of events taking place along the promenade next to the Old Port.

‘The Day of the Sea’ has been organised by the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) and will take place from 10am until10pm. All proceeds will be donated to the ‘Make A Wish’ foundation.

“The aims of the event are to establish the celebration of World Shipping Day by the Cypriot shipping industry, to provide information to the public for employment opportunities in shipping and mainly to collect money to support the ‘Make A Wish’ foundation,” said Thomas Kazakos, CSC Director at a press conference last week.

The ‘Make A Wish’ foundation works on a volunteer basis, helping children suffering from cancer. “Our foundation has been in existence for 11 years now. When we first started, helping a cancer child patient was an unfulfilled dream. Thanks to the initiative of a small group of parents of children suffering from cancer and their friends, this dream is becoming reality,” said Maro Hadjichristofi, General Secretary of the Make A Wish Foundation.

‘The Day of the Sea’ will include water sports, military ship shows, rowing, jet ski and boating races and sea and air rescue exhibitions.
