Man dies after being hit by drunk driver

A 90-YEAR-OLD pedestrian was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning after being hit by a drunk driver.

The incident took place at 5.30am in the Nicosia district village of Peristerona as Christos Siarmatta was attempting to cross Nicosia Avenue.

He was rushed by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The 25-year-old driver was remanded in custody after failing a breathalyser test. He was nearly two times over the legal drink driving limit.
