Man forges grandma’s signature to sell her land

A 29-YEAR-old man from Limassol forged the signature of his 74-year-old grandmother, in order to sell a plot of land that belongs to the woman, police said yesterday.

The 29-year-old sold his grandmother’s land in her village in the Limassol district to a 45-year-old construction developer for €100,000. The transaction took place in August and the 29-year-old had forged a Power of Attorney document, which he presented to the developer as proof that the land’s owner had authorised the sale.

The 74-year-old woman was informed by a third party that her land had been sold, and was surprised by the news. The woman contacted the Land Registry department, which temporarily froze the 45-year-old developer’s title deeds.

The 29-year-old is wanted by police on charges of forgery, improper transaction of real estate that belongs to another person and acquiring money with false pretences.
