Can nothing be done about those quad bikes?

Sir,

I frequently travel to the Ayia Thekla area, being there on holiday until August 26 this year, and was overwhelmed by the use of quads.

May I ask a question of readers or any other competent authority (not hire shop owners). If you need a helmet for a bike with two wheels and none for a quad, i.e. 4 wheels, making it a car, why don’t they have to have seat belts fitted and used (excepting the dingo style which do have belts)? I have been told by bike shop owners that they are classified as a trike, but surely even Cypriots can’t redefine the use of the words quad (4) trike (3) and bike (2).There must be some form of law to get these things off the roads, which frankly they where never designed for. How they get a certificate of conformity and who validates such certificates is beyond comprehension. Then again, I suppose I should remember one law for them (Cypriots) one for everyone else, a lot goes for the koumbaros theory, every Cypriot seems to have one.

One final point: fantastic service at Larnaca airport inwards and outbound from check in to landing, while funnily enough it was at Luton airport that the proverbial hit the fan – best part of a hour for baggage to come through.
