Delayed school year start for Rizokarpaso school children

Greek Cypriot children in the occupied areas missed the beginning of the new primary school year yesterday because their teachers had yet to be “approved” by the Turkish Cypriot authorities.

Teachers from the Republic were prevented from entering northern Cyprus while the delivery of text books was also blocked.

Car jackers sought

ARREST warrants have been issued against two men who carjacked a man in Larnaca on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the statement given to police by the 48-year-old betting shop owner, his car was stopped on Griva Digenis Avenue before he was physically assaulted, with his attackers then driving off in his luxury car.

And one has not a little malicious pleasure in seeing the illegally parked cars suddenly sealed in (though disappointingly a temporary exit route has been left. Why? Dangerous ditch endangers students

STUDENTS at Aglantzia primary school (D) were welcomed back after the summer holidays yesterday to find a 40m ditch, running across the length of the front of their school.

The ditch, which is around 40ms long and 4ms deep, is just part of the many ongoing road works currently taking place in Aglantzia, and other areas of Nicosia.
