Two wanted for brutal shop mugging

TWO foreigners are believed to be responsible for a robbery on a money transfer shop in old Nicosia on Sunday.

According to police yesterday, the shop’s Lithuanian employee said she had heard the two men speaking in Russian.

The woman said the men had entered the shop on Onasagorou Street a little after 7pm wearing scarves around their faces. One grabbed the employee from the throat and hurled her to the ground, threatening her with a pocketknife.

They then asked her where the money was, and, after taking €1,200, they taped her hands together and fled.

One of the culprits was described as 1.80 metres tall, of medium build, around 30 years old with black curly hair. He was wearing dark clothes and a red scarf with little white flowers on it.

The second man is around 1.85 metres tall, of medium build and around 30 years old, with dark short hair. He was wearing a black scarf with white flowers and dark clothes.

Police yesterday said there were, as yet, no further developments in the case.

Meanwhile, an English Cypriot woman was robbed of €1,700 worth of jewellery, which she had in her bag while she bathed in the sea.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon on Finikoudes beach in Larnaca.

Larnaca police, who are investigating the case, yesterday warned the public to be careful with what they leave in their bags while they swim in the sea.
