Can you save this dog?

HIS big doe-eyed expression will have all dog lovers captivated; and heartbroken after realising that he is soon to be put down if a decent home cannot be found for him.

This little feller, who can’t be more than a year old, was neglected by his owner over the holidays and eventually run over by a car, badly breaking his right back leg.

The Nicosia Dog Shelter cannot afford to pay the €350 fee for his operation and is also overcrowded to the point that it will have to euthanize 100 dogs this month.

“So the only option is to put him to sleep,” the shelter’s Sharon Beckett explained, adding that this was easier said than done. “He is so young and healthy otherwise; and so sweet natured.

“But we can’t have a dog in such condition at the shelter,” she said. “He needs treatment and special care while his badly broken leg gets better. He needs to be looked after properly.”

Beckett added, “After the holidays, there are so many dogs that have been abandoned by their owners, we are packed here. At the moment we have over 240 dogs and I will have to put 30 to 40 of them to sleep [today]”.

So if there is anybody out there who can give him the care and love he needs, please get in touch.

“If someone feels sympathetic and adopts him to give him a good life, that would be brilliant,” said Beckett. “Unfortunately, I need to make a decision pretty fast.”

Anyone who may be interested in adopting him can contact Sharon Beckett on 99-868512.
