Electricity rises not as high as feared

CONSUMERS must be prepared for a four per cent increase in their next electricity bills.

The Chairman of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), Harris Thrassou, rubbished reports that there would be a 28 per cent increase in fees and added that the following bills would actually see a reduction in prices.

Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Antonis Paschalides will be heading an EAC delegation in Russia, where they will attempt to find a natural gas supplier.

The delegation, which will be in Moscow from September 8-11, will be joined by Thrassou, Energy Department head Solon Kassinis, Energy Regulator Costas Ioannou and Giorgos Shammas, who is in charge of natural gas issues for the EAC.
