THE WOMAN who drowned in Limassol on Wednesday was yesterday identified as 57-year-old Alexandra Vasiliki Mavromati from Zaire, now a permanent resident of Nicosia.

Her body was found floating in the sea area of Epichosis in Limassol. Initial reports had suggested the woman was Egyptian.

According to a police official, relatives of the 57-year old were searching for her and yesterday she was reported as a missing person.

The woman was seen walking along the Molos pedestrian walkway near the Old Port before entering the water on Wednesday afternoon.

A while later, a young man who was fishing in the area noticed her unconscious body floating in the water and jumped in to rescue her.
