A HUNDRED and sixty one easyJet passengers stranded in Paphos since Wednesday evening were last night finally set to leave for their destination in Manchester, ending a 24-hour ordeal that started when their original flight turned back when the plane began to shake, half an hour after take off.

Brothers to run around Cyprus to raise cash for AIDS

TWO brothers will run 300 miles around the island next month in an effort to raise money for AIDS research.

Sridhar Reddy, a computer scientist in the United States, will run 19 miles a day with his brother Jayanth, beginning on September 15 in Larnaca.

They plan to end the charity event in Nicosia on October 1.

Drowning victim identified

THE WOMAN who drowned in Limassol on Wednesday was yesterday identified as 57-year-old Alexandra Vasiliki Mavromati from Zaire, now a permanent resident of Nicosia.

Her body was found floating in the sea area of Epichosis in Limassol. Initial reports had suggested the woman was Egyptian.

Murder suspect in suicide bid

TWENTY-nine-year-old murder suspect Eftychia Zari yesterday tried to hang herself in her police holding cell.

Zari, who is being held for the murder of her 25-year-old sister Eleni, used the bed sheets from her Lakatamia police holding cell to try and end her life at around 8.30am.

Gun suspect disappears after court release

POLICE are looking for a 39-year-old suspect who has disappeared after a Nicosia district court released him on the grounds that there was not enough evidence to remand him in custody.

The suspect, who was arrested on Wednesday for the illegal possession of weapons, has disappeared into thin air since he was released.
