Woman ‘raped in Larnaca taxi’

A 27-YEAR-old British woman has told police that she was raped by a taxi driver at 1am on Monday in Livadia near Larnaca.

According to the woman’s report, she hailed a taxi at Makarios III Avenue to take her to her home, but the driver took her out of town instead and raped her inside the taxi. The woman was examined by pathologist Nicholas Charalambous, who found injuries on her body including bruises and abrasions.

The driver denied any involvement in a rape case, and claimed that the woman wanted sex and that he only touched her leg. He refused to be examined by the pathologist and samples were collected from him for DNA tests.

Larnaca District Court remanded the man in custody for four days yesterday.

Larnaca CID is investigating the case.
