The article by Bejay Browne on the noise created by the plague of quad bikes was excellent, but does not go far enough (Cyprus Mail, August 1). It is not just in the outlying villages that this menace is rampant, as most of Kato Paphos is similarly affected.

Can we ever learn to just use less water?

WATER cuts imposed earlier this year have managed to reduce total consumption by almost a quarter. With the supplies from Greece finally flowing smoothly, this means Cyprus should be able to scrape through this critical period of drought until a new desalination plant comes online next spring, allowing the government to put an end to the inconvenience of water rationing.

MOST OF my family elders went to heaven in their 90s in the middle of summer, when 40C and dust made it difficult to breathe. We smokers know this at 60 – never mind 90 – not that we’ve an iceblock’s chance in hell of ever getting there.
