Holiday water savings to go to hardest hit areas

THE NICOSIA Water Board yesterday announced that the water saved in the holiday week in the capital, will be granted to areas facing serious water supply problems.

Head of the Nicosia Water Department, Nicos Zambakides, told the Cyprus Mail, “Because it is the period where almost all Nicosia residents are away on vacation, whatever can be saved will be given to areas that really need it. It won’t be a great amount but every little helps”

According to the Water Board, the next couple of days will determine whether some quantities will be saved and whether it will be possible for Nicosia to help other areas which, because of tourism, will have increased water needs this season.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, there was a fault in the water supply in the areas of Kaimakli and Latsia. The damage to the network resulted in a lack of water in the areas for some hours. The problem was resolved on Wednesday morning and the Water Board started the flow of water to meet the needs of both areas.
