Woman in coma after brutal beating by husband

A 28-YEAR-old Russian woman is in extremely critical condition after she was beaten to the brink of death by her husband, police said.

A Nicosia district court yesterday remanded her husband, a 29-year-old Greek Cypriot from Kaimakli, in custody for four days on suspicion of domestic violence and grievous bodily harm. He has denied all charges.

A BACTERIUM outbreak at Nicosia general hospital should be under control within the next fortnight, senior hospital staff said yesterday.

AUTHORITIES yesterday announced a string of measures to promote safe swimming in Paphos in the wake of the drowning tragedy at the weekend.

New signs, stating the hazards of swimming in dangerous conditions will be placed close to the seashore, and the warning will be depicted in four languages.

Greece file charges in Helios case

CHARGES ranging from murder to negligence have been filed by Greek authorities against six former Helios Airways officials, reports said last night.

State television CyBC said the six included three Cypriots, two Britons and a Bulgarian but details were sketchy and the identities of the six were not revealed.

Limassol unveils major marina project

THE FINAL plans for the €250million Limassol Marina project were released yesterday at Limassol Town Hall by project architect Saverios Vrahimis. Work on the large-scale project at the heart of the old Limassol’s seafront is expected to start soon and be completed by 2011.

Petrol price cut

Petrolina announced yesterday that petrol prices would come down €0.03 from today after further falls in global oil prices. From today Octane 95 will be sold for €1.12 per litre and Octane 98 for €1.15 per litre, Petrolina said. It also said the price of diesel would drop €0.04 to €1.21 per litre as of tomorrow.

Police crack down on Paphos quad bike plague

NOISY quad bikes are causing misery for villagers in Paphos.

The residents of six Paphos villages have complained to the traffic police about teenage drivers tearing through their villages on four-wheel bikes.

Many of these ‘quads’ are only suitable for off- road driving, but some are legal, and meet EU vehicle regulations.
