Polis eyes local tourism to keep up numbers

THIS SUMMER is the worst in history for tourism to the town of Polis, a local councillor has warned.

Kyriakos Kleanthous, a local councillor from Polis Chrysochous in Paphos, and the president of the local tourism committee, said current figures for the high season of 2008 show only 25-30 per cent occupancy.

Scottish men held in euro scam

THREE HOLIDAYMAKERS from Scotland were arrested in Kato Paphos on Sunday night, for possession and circulation of fake €50 notes.

The trio paid for goods in a kiosk with a €50 note, which was discovered to be a fake. The shop owner called police, and the men attempted to flee.

HOMOPHOBIA is rampant throughout Cypriot society, according to a recent EU survey, which found that almost three-quarters of all Cypriots admitted to discriminating against homosexuals.
