Aflatoxin peanuts seized at port

ELEVATED levels of aflatoxins were found in a shipment of peanuts yesterday, the Health Services announced.

Nineteen thousand kilos were confiscated at Larnaca Port, which had come from China.

The shipment will either be destroyed or sent back.

Health Minister Christos Patsalides said there was no danger of the nuts circulating in the market, while the EU has been informed.

Her added that further checks would be continuing, saying he has a responsibility to keep the public informed.
