Fire at army warehouse

A FIRE broke out in the general supplies warehouse of the Larnaca boot camp at 1am yesterday.

The Fire Brigade, the National Guard and the police rushed to the scene and caught the fire in time before it spread.

“The fire occurred in the warehouse,” said Larnaca Fire Brigade Chief Ezekiel Papadopoulos, adding, “the direct intervention of the Fire Brigade with four engines and the collaboration of officers and soldiers of the camp helped in bringing the fire under control and prevent it from spreading beyond the warehouse.”

The cause of the fire is been investigated by the National Guard and the police in collaboration with the Fire Brigade and the Electromechanical Service.

Papadopoulos said that “at first sight it appears that the fire was an accident”, adding that “we are in the initial stage of the investigation and we will wait for the completion in order to come to a conclusion”.

Papadopoulos said the warehouse contained general supplies and did not contain flammable materials.
