Tales from the coffeeshop

COMMISSAR presidente took Whitehall by storm on Thursday as he swaggered into 10 Downing Street with the air of a statesman from a G8 nation.

Cyprus must not lose its hospitality

Sir,

I have been visiting Paphos to stay with English friends just about every year for the last 25 years. And with remarkably few exceptions this has meant friendliness and being well looked after wherever we have been.

Lost in concrete

Sir,

How I sympathise with Ken Hart (letters, May 29) on the destruction of the environment. An area close to our house used to have a large, official looking, sign that stated simply “Nature reserve. No hunting”. Unfortunately it didn’t say “Nature reserve. No building”.

It is now completely under concrete.
