Serial burglar caught in Limassol

A 23-YEAR-old man from Limassol who had been wanted in relation to a series of theft and burglary cases has finally been caught, police said yesterday.

The suspect confessed to the charges brought against him in relation to 11 cases and is presently in remand. He admitted to committing five cases of theft and burglary that took place in Limassol this month, as well as five cases of stealing from people and one case of stealing from a residence.

The 23-year-old is thought to be the serial thief who was seen riding a red motorbike and snatching women’s bags in Limassol over the past few weeks. “The suspect visited certain residential areas in Limassol, and when he saw women leave their houses (particularly older women), he would go near them while on his motorbike, grab their bags and leave,” said Andreas Angelides, Senior police Officer.

The suspect told police that the red motorbike he used was stolen and police are trying to track down its owner. Police said the suspect had been involved in similar cases in the past.

He appeared before Limassol District Court yesterday, where a remand order was issued
