There have always been changes in climate

Sir,

With reference to the letter from Dr Michael Paraskos of Lemba (Letters, May 18), I would like to say that I firmly support Mr Kennedy of Geri in his belief that global warming is all a fallacy.

There have always been changes in climate, figs and grapes were grown in Knaresborough in North Yorkshire in the 16th century, why are they unable to grow them there now if the temperature is so much warmer?

As recently as the 1970s, following several poor summers and hard winters, there was even talk that the world would be suffering a new ice age – what has happened to that? Tests on the polar ice cap have revealed that over millions of years the extent of the ice has increased and then diminished, so why is the same movement now a major issue?

As for the so called experts and scientists, there are equally as many who believe there is no global warming but their views are not given precedence as they are not fashionable. There are so many industries and lobbies that have sprung up from the so called phenomenon of global warming that there would be millions out of work (mainly public sector workers) if it was shown not to be true.
