ANIMALS die or suffer constantly and no one is being punished, animal organisations said yesterday.

“Whether it’s dogs, horses, donkeys, we repeatedly see examples of their mistreatment,” said Stella Stylianou, secretary of Cyprus Voice for Animals (CVA).

University agrees to suspend GCE admissions

THE SENATE of the University of Cyprus yesterday decided to suspend for one year its decision to admit pupils to the University with internationally accredited examinations such as GCEs.

CSE revenue up 50 per cent

CYPRUS Stock Exchange (CSE) revenue rose 50 per cent to €6.4 million in 2007 over 2006, chairman Georgios Koufaris said yesterday.

Cars impounded in UK stolen car probe

THREE cars have been confiscated so far in an ongoing Scotland Yard investigation in Cyprus involving a luxury car scam, police said yesterday.

CID headquarters chief Yiannakis Charalambous said so far three cars had been impounded on suspicion of being stolen.

“At a first glance it looks as if they are stolen,” he said.

Defence Ministry demands exit permits for those under 26

UNDER-26 Cypriot male citizens will have to present either their military release papers or an exit permit at ports and airports if they wish to leave the country.

The measure will be in force from June 1 2008 onwards and will apply to those who have not yet turned 26.

“We have returned to the old system,” Defence Ministry Spokesman Yiannis Patsalides told the Mail.
