Meeting

A meeting will be held at the Attorney-general’s office on Tuesday to discuss what will become of the 200 boxes of hunting bullets that were confiscated at Larnaca Airport on Thursday night.

The container, filled with 2,440 kilos of bullets, was headed towards Sudan via Amman.

But an EU directive was issued on Thursday, banning the exportation of the container as an arms embargo had been imposed in Sudan.

The documents accompanying the container were legal, while Cyprus Customs had actually authorised the container before the EU directive was applied.

The company that produced the bullets, Prokopis Gavrielides Ltd, issued an announcement yesterday saying that the bullets were aimed for sports reasons such as hunting and shooting games, and everything was done within legality.

It added that it was not the first time that it exported hunting bullets to Sudan or other countries.
