Water tanks sold out

SALES of water tanks have shot through the roof, with consumers now hard pressed to find any in stock.

Since water cuts were implemented earlier this month, reports of chaos have come flooding in, with many homes complaining of having little or no water.

People living in apartment blocks are among those complaining loudest with residents saying that water tanks on top of buildings cannot satisfy their needs. Many have resorted to installing extra tanks serving their particular apartments.

But now, even somebody wanting to install an extra tank will find it nearly impossible to find one.

According to a Metalco salesman, the company has fully sold out and could not provide a timeframe as to when new stock would be available.

“The phone hasn’t stopped ringing with enquiries from the day water cuts were announced,” he said.

An EFNIC sales consultant was clearly distressed over the situation. “People have gone mad and we can’t do any business at the moment as we don’t have any tanks available,” he told the Mail. “To make matters worse, we had a huge order coming in but it was cancelled for reasons that I was not made aware of.”

Maria Petrou Theodorou is the manager of Aspis Solar Heaters. “Everything we had in stock has completely sold out and it has been chaos here recently,” she said. “It’s not even summer yet and people have been panicking over not having enough water.”

She added that tanks could be ordered, as long as the customer was willing to wait around ten days for delivery. Prices start at €250 plus VAT.

More problems emerged yesterday in the Voroklini area of Larnaca, with the Secretary of the Community Council explaining that some homes located at high altitude have had no water for five days due to a lack of pressure.

Andreas Theodosiou was confident that the problems would be solved by today however.

“We have been working day and night to correct the problems and hope that all homes will now have a supply three times a week,” he explained. “We’ve made certain changes to our water system which will ensure that the water we have available will be equally divided.”
