Arsonists destroy Ayia Napa restaurant

A FIRE burst out around 6am yesterday at the Camelot restaurant in Ayia Napa, with damages estimated at approximately €50,000.

Head of Famagusta CID, George Economou, reported that from the investigation conducted by the police, it appeared the fire had been set deliberately when the experts discovered that the door of the restaurant was forced open.

According to investigations, it appears that the perpetrators gathered a pile of chairs and used them to start the fire, and in a matter of minutes, the establishment was in flames. Economou said the motives of the arsonists remained unknown and the police were turning to all directions. The restaurant was rented for the last two years to a Briton, a permanent resident of Cyprus, and is closed during the winter period. The restaurant was insured against fire.
