Take seven: Yellow fashion items

It’s the ‘walking on sunshine’ trend that’s made it big this season! Yellow is one of those colours that can put a spring in your step, making you feel happy and energised. It also suits both pale and dark skins. We’ve compiled seven fashion items that will allow you to experiment with the spring trend without going overboard.

Jeans by Red Herring at Debenhams
This has to be the scariest item of the collection only because of the difficulty level it imposes. These jeans should only be worn if skinny jeans look good on you. Although these have a skinny, long, stretch design to them, keep in mind that they are yellow and therefore will make thighs look twice their size. If you feel confident enough, pair them with some heels to elongate legs but make sure the shoes are a neutral, pale colour. Not black!!!

Shoes by Springfield at Debenhams
Even though these sandals are a bit too goody-two-shoes for me, they’re cute and look incredibly comfortable. This is a perfect way to do yellow if you like the colour but don’t feel comfortable wearing too much of it near your face. I can see these working with a pretty, floral dress and a cardigan but that doesn’t mean you can’t toughen up the look by pairing them with some jeans.

Silk blouse by Mango
Although I lost interest in Mango a few seasons back, there are now plenty of stylish items in store. This 100 per cent silk blouse is perfect for three reasons. First, it’s a lovely shade of yellow that will suit all skin colours, second the smock design means that it will hide any bumps around the waist area and third, don’t you just love the bow detail? Throw on a pair of jeans or black pencil skirt and off you go!

Hooded track-suit top by Bershka
Bershka is considered a hot place… if you’re 16! The clothes are so cheap, it’s the perfect source for trends you don’t want to splurge on in case they aren’t around next season. Like this hooded top. The style is impressive, especially the three quarter length sleeves, making it perfect for anything. Be creative and team it with a floral dress and brown wedges or denim shorts and flip flops.

Topcoat by Zara
Now, this one is only for those who are daring. I loved the brazenness of it – you could be wearing your nightgown underneath and no one would notice. The oversized buttons are gorgeous and the design of the coat will conceal a big bottom without making you look like a tent. Just remember to keep everything simple and let the coat work its magic.

Handbag by Longchamp’s Rodeo line
A yellow designer handbag can really add impact to black, white or navy. If you have plenty of these colours in your closet already, a yellow bag may be just the update you need to carry your current style into spring and summer. Longchamp’s suede mustard yellow shopper is elegant and can accommodate as much as you want with its many zippers and pockets. The side front zippers open and close to enlarge or decrease the capacity of the bag and there’s an inside zip pocket and two open slots. And just so you know, mustard yellow is one of the most stylish shades of this trend.

Dress by Crystal Velvet
This is a perfect example of a trend that’s been designed so that it can be worn over and over again, even when it becomes a colour the fashion world would rather forget (because you know it will be). This means that people who are terrified of standing out in a crowd but love the colour can wear it in a stunning manner. By combining a mustardy yellow with gold, brown and a dash of black, the result is a beautifully designed little dress with a stunning detail around the collar. Made in France, with a price tag like this, it doesn’t get any better.
