Women urge leaders to work for a solution

WOMEN from both communities of Cyprus gathered at the entrance to the UN protected area in Nicosia yesterday to declare their strong will for a solution and reunification of the country.

Roughly 40 women, members of an ad hoc committee of women for a solution, organised the gathering yesterday calling the two leaders to work for a solution to the Cyprus problem.

The women waved banners with signs in Greek, English and Turkish that read “United for the future of our children”, “Here and now: Christofias – Talat give us a united Cyprus “, and ” Stop the partition: The time for peace is here”. They chanted slogans that the time for a solution and reunification of Cyprus was here, for all Cypriots and for the future generation.

Dora Kyriakidou, a woman among the crowd, said: “the aim of the event was to show that Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots should unite once again like they were united before, as a family.”

“We came here peacefully to declare our will for a united Cyprus, a solution where all can live together,” added another woman Rena Agrotou, while a third, Alexandra Charidou, said their aim was, “to encourage them to advance with bravery in the solution of the Cyprus problem and in the reunification of Cyprus and its people.

“We’ve had enough; we want a solution and reunification.”
