Drug arrests in Limassol

A 43-YEAR-old man and his 24-year-old son were arrested after police found six cannabis plants at their Limassol home, police said yesterday.
Following a tip-off on Thursday evening that the two men kept drugs at their house, police visited their apartment in Yermasoyia for a search. They found five plastic pots containing six cannabis plants in full bloom. The plants were between 15cm and 40cm in height.

The two men were then taken in for questioning at Limassol headquarters, where they admitted that the plants belonged to them. They told police that they were regular drug users and that the plants were for their own use. The suspects were remanded in custody for seven days.

In a separate incident on the same night, a 33-year-old man from Limassol was arrested for drug possession, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. Police had received information that the suspect was a drug dealer, so they visited his house and waited for his return.

When the suspect saw the police officers he started shouting, refused to be searched and hit one of the police officers. As a result of the assault, the police officer sustained bruises and cuts all over his body. After using necessary violence, police officers were finally able to search the man. They found 13.5 grams of cannabis in his possession. Police also found that the suspect has been driving his car without a licence for the last five years.
The man was arrested and remanded in custody. Police continue to investigate the case.
