Syrians stabbed in Paphos brawl

TWO SYRIAN brothers were hospitalised after they were stabbed in a Sunday night brawl in Paphos, police said yesterday.

Investigators are looking for two men in connection with the incident and the identity of a third suspect is still pending, Paphos police said.

The fight broke out between a group of Syrian permanent residents of Paphos in the Tombs of the King area on Sunday night. What started out as the settling of an earlier vendetta soon escalated into an all out feud involving knives, sticks and stones.

The brothers were rushed to Paphos general hospital with stab wounds and are receiving treatment on the facility’s surgical ward. Police would not yesterday release information regarding the duo’s identity.

The original dispute occurred on Saturday night in Polis Chrysochous when one of the two brothers attacked another Syrian man with a bottle. Wanting to avenge their friend’s injuries, a group of Syrian men ambushed their friend’s attacker and his brother outside their apartment.

The fight moved from the apartment to an open area outside. As the incident escalated, the two brothers were injured, as was a third man who lives in the same flat.

The siblings were rushed to hospital for treatment and were admitted immediately due to the severity of their wounds. Doctors’ said one of the two had suffered injuries to his left leg, while the other suffered injuries to his chest. The pair’s tenant was released after receiving first aid for a light wound on his left arm.
